Attorney Profiles Laurie G. Robertson Puyallup, Washington
Laurie Robertson once worked for a law firm that was a special advocate for the state of Georgia, suing parents who weren't paying court-ordered child support. The firm also represented the Georgia Department of Family and Children's Services, the agency that handles neglect and abuse cases for the state. Now Laurie Robertson brings her proven advocacy skills and eleven years of law experience to the Tacoma office of Lutz Law. Laurie, a New Jersey native, decided to pursue law while earning a B.A. in Psychology from Rutgers University. She received her J.D. in 1995 from New York Law School. Ready for a change of scene, she moved to Georgia, where her most memorable cases included removing children from unsafe homes and giving them a chance for healthy lives. Across the country in Washington, her family had relocated and urged her to try life on the West Coast. Laurie spent three years handling special projects for Preston Gates & Ellis in Seattle, whose expertise includes complex business transactions, civil litigation and public policy. She practiced family law in the Seattle area on her own, but decided she wanted to work more closely with other attorneys in a growing law firm. Lutz Law was the perfect match. Laurie is an expert in handling divorce cases. She believes clients fare best when they can settle matters outside the courtroom. If children are involved and the parents are competent, she strives to create an agreement that encourages both parents to be active in their children's lives. Yet she is very comfortable and aggressive in court when needed. "You can do a hundred divorces and each case is different," she says. "You're helping people at a very fragile time. Their lives are turned inside out. You can lend some stability to that and help them get started in a new direction." Laurie and her husband Paul Robertson are active volunteers with the international relief agency Hope Worldwide. Laurie competed on the equestrian team at Rutgers and still enjoys riding horses and other outdoor pursuits. |
